Brand Spanking New Releases: Sharp Ends, Movie Star Junkies 0

NEW RELEASES

Kill Shaman is proud to release two new records, one from Canada’s Sharp Ends and one from Italy’s Movie Star Junkies. Details below, tracks from each album available for listening at killshaman.com.

SHARP ENDS “S/T” LP

Calgary, Canada’s Sharp Ends have released their first LP on our very own Kill Shaman. After two amazing 7″s that moved at light speed on Hozac and Mammoth Cave, Sharp Ends spent the next 9 months writing and recording the 10 tracks that have been lovingly smashed into wax for this fine release. The LP contains some of the finest post-punk weirdness that we’ve ever heard, channelling bits of 80′s British No Wave and colliding it with a Dischord-like agressive aesthetic, Sharp Ends have a real winner here. Recordeed by Ryan Sadler, mixed by the band, and mastered by Gabe Dudes; these 10 tracks will blow out your eardrums. Limited to 500 copies on black vinyl only, 45 RPM.

Tracks:
1. Goodbye to Berlin
2. The Other Door
3. Mother Squid
4. 44
5. Senseless Feeling
6. Live Action
7. Equalizer
8. Signal Hill
9. Teenage Warfare
10. Hybernation

MOVIE STAR JUNKIES “IN A NIGHT LIKE THIS” 10″ EP

It’s not often that one comes across a band as original and experienced as Movie Star Junkies. Kill Shaman have been fans of the band since we first heard early releases on AVANT! and their split with fellow KS band, The Feeling of Love. Mixing some sort of Italian spaghetti western aesthetic with goth, post-punk, and the volume and stage presence of the best garage bands, Movie Star Junkies have shared a sweet little 4-song 10″ EP with us. The album is 100% black vinyl, limited to 500 copies and comes with beautiful packaging, including upgraded 10″ stock and a beautiful printed inner-sleeve complete with lyrics and creepy artwork (hence the price tag). For fans of Nick Cave, Dog-Faced Hermans, and any of the other Le Grande Triple Alliance bands. Note for European customers: This 10″ is available on Ghost Records in Italy. Get it there.

Tracks:
1. Loneliness Like Clouds Above (3:21)
2. Twice Upon a Time (3:28)
3. Odyssey of Jason (3:24)
4. Death, Silence, and Sleep (2:55)

The Feeling of Love “OK Judge Revival” Repress OUT NOW 0

This bad boy is back in stock in the KS store in limited quantity. Repressed for the band’s upcoming euro tour in a quantity of 500, half of which went to the band. We have about 250 or so left for sale in the US, so get them quick. This guy was on the top of many lists for a while there and is sure to make a best of 2010 for some asshole out there. Dusted says this in their mid-year roundup:

On OK Judge Revival, The Feeling of Love subdue the vicious bad-assitude of earlier releases in order to highlight the Velvets groove and Spacemen trance that their peers mostly ignore. Out of 11 tracks, the first nine cut a mean swath, and “Young Jesus” pops up from an earlier 7″ to close out the album with a delirious, repetitive, stomping sing-a-long; but all of that isn’t really why the album is the best thing I’ve heard this year. No, this album is all about “God Willing.” The track lifts woozy speak-sing daydreaming into an unholy pre-meltdown adolescent bitchfest that improbably straddles the line between too-cool-for-school and legitimate, unnerved teenage self-loathing. I haven’t heard a more gob-smacking garage track since the A Frames’ “Eva Braun.” In a scene where many great bands are content to simply kick out the jams, these guys are special.

Available in the Kill Shaman Store here for only $10 US. Get it now before it’s gone again. There will be no more pressings of this LP (Kill Shaman sticks to a maximum of 1000 records pressed for any release).

Next Up!

We’ve got some great things in the works. Coming very soon are two great vinyl slabs; the first is The Sharp Ends “Self-Titled” full-length LP. Great post-punk rock from these punkers in Canadia. Sort of similar to Bipolar Bear in arhythmic styling, but with a much more accessible and all around polished sound. Second up is a 10″ from The Movie Star Junkies titled “In a Night Like This”; some brilliant Italian post-punk with nods to Ennio Morricone, Dog-Faced Hermans,  and The Wire all at once. Includes members of A.H. Kraken, etc. Expect both records to be out in late-October.

The Dictaphone “S/T” LP OUT NOW!!!! 0

For you listening enjoyment. Click the image to buy this guy:

Tours, France’s one-man band The Dictaphone has been kind enough to provide Kill Shaman with a full-length LP of pure brutality and fuzz. This 12-song LP is an epic journey into blown out instrumentals, drum machines, guitar noodles, and distortion; a wonderful follow-up to the 7″ on Sweet Rot and the STUFFS comp on Compost Modern Art. The Dictaphone’s unique style mixes elements of The Residents, Pink Noise, and the A-Frames to present a fine-tuned face-melting foray of angular guitar noodling and noise punk. It’s a real head-banging, toe-tapping, industrial punk rock gem. Limited to 500 LP’s on black vinyl with black inner-sleeves.

Yup, Even MORE Distro 0

Just to get your ding-a-ling shuffling, here’s a sample track video made by our pals at Compost Modern Art Recordings for the upcoming STUFFS! compilation that we’ll be getting in. Lots of KS bands are on there, so it’s super cool. This one, however, is really important because it was done by THE DICTAPHONE!!! And this song is actually an alternate version of a song from the upcoming LP THE DICTAPHONE “THE DICTAPHONE” that will be available for purchase THURSDAY, AUGUST 5th in our store. Fuck yeah. Check it out:

Even more stuff made its way into the distro store. Check out these tittles from Enfant Terrible, Rococo, and AVANT!. Lots of imported and super limited shit:

Maximum Wage “I-U / All At Once” 7″ – Ian Adams’ (Ponys, Submarine Races) new band

Tyler John Tyler “Separate Issue” 7″ – Members of the Daily Void and The Ponys make awesome pop music

Lumerians “Burning Mirrors” 7″ – SF fuzz gods bring the terror on a two-sided slab of wax

El Vicio “Longarisse” 7″ – French garage underground awesomeness including members of Sonic Chicken 4

The Dreams “TOUR” 7″ – A KS favorite, a 7″ limited to 300 copies to celebrate their US tour with Teepee last winter

Red Mass “Split Brain Experiment” 10″ – Newsets 10″ from ex-CPC Gangbangs dude. Hand numbered and limited to 100 on green vinyl.

Cult of Youth’s  “Filthy Plumage in an Open Sea!” LP – Brooklyn bummer-folk-punk stuff released on AVANT! and imported from Italy.

V/A “Kamp Holland” 2XLP – AWESOME 2XLP from Enfant Terrible full of new Dutch underground electro and minimal wave stuff. Suuuuuppperrrr good. Was waiting for this one for a while.

Paul Cary “Ghost of a Man” LP -  Ex-Horrors frontman makes some great jams. Certainly came as a surprise when I first listened. Really great americana-style garage.

The Oh Sees / Paul Cary “Split” 7″ – You know who the Oh Sees are. Paul Cary is really great and shows it on this 7″ Was OOP for a long time, but now its back.

And the big news:

Oh No! Distro SPAM TIME!!!!!! 0

So yeah, the title says we got a lot of new distro in. That’s because we did. We got tons of stuff from Red Lounge Records in Germany and few things from Goodbye Boozy Records in Italy. Still waiting on a large order from Enfant Terrible in the Netherlands and some new stuff from Rococo in Chicago. I’ll update the list here when them bad boys come in.

I also had fucked up our store for a loooonnnngggg time, so lots of items (around 30 of ‘em) weren’t showing up in the giant list. So I had to break stuff into categories, and now you can access a bunch of badass records that no one could by on our site before. I though they just weren’t selling and was really confused by it because some are really badass. It’s mostly stuff at the end of the alphabet, like “t” and beyond. So that includes lots of comps that start with “V/A”. I think a good amount of them are sold out elsewhere… shit, this stupid site was broken for too long. Anyhow, fixed. Prepare to purchase.

Hmm, what else is going on? Oh yeah! THE DICTAPHONE LP WILL BE DONE VERY SHORTLY!!! That’s right. I’ll post a proper date this week, but it’s coming fast. Onto the distro:

  1. The Turn It Offs “Too Much Static” LP – If I told you they sound like a mix between the Boston Chinks, Lover! and the Oblivians, would that get your mouth watering?
  2. Cococoma “Spectrum of Sounds” LP – Brilliant LP of sold out 7″s, unreleased stuff and liver performances. Awesome gatefold packaging too.
  3. Occult Detective Club “Tortures” LP – Members of Maaster Gaiden take on a 1/3 Marked Men, 2/3 Hex Dispensers sound.
  4. Red Mass “S/T” 10″ – Awesome gatefold 10″ from former CPC Gangbangs psych pop band
  5. Wooden Tit “Sechs Lieder” 10″ – Sweet 10″ from Bassholes blues-punk master, Don Howland
  6. Snake Flower 2 “Biker Psych” 7″ – Awesome psych 7″ from SF’s Snake Flower 2
  7. Black Bug “Television Screen” 7″ – Amazing Swedish synth-punk. Really good.
  8. Lover! “Lets Play a Game B/W Salt Water Surprise” 7″ – Great 7″ from former Lost Sounds and Reatards member.
  9. Monks “Pretty Suzanne (Fuzz Version) B/W Monk Time” 7″ – That’s right. The MONKS! Perfect and unreleased 7″ of pure fuzz.
  10. Primitive Hands “Burn your Dreams” 7″ – Great psych rock pop from a member of Demon’s Claws. From Italy and super limited.
  11. Broke Down Engine “Walk of Shame” 7″ – Demon’s Claws side project featuring Pat Meteor!
  12. Mikal Cronin “Gone B/W Give it to Me” 7″- New 7″ by  Mikal Cronin (Ty and Mkal LP, Okie Dokie, Moonhearts, etc). Troggs cover on the b-side!

Plus, we added a “Stuff” section in the store where you can pick up some T’s we had left over, some posters, and some pins. Found a bunch of this stuff from various old yours and what not, so it’s all pretty cool.

Thanks,

Crabby Levine

It’s been so long…. 0

Since we posted anything on here. I’m really sorry about that. So one of us took off around the US in a van for he summer. Nope, not going on tour. Just checking out the grand States and learning about this great country of ours. I think he’s near the giant oil spill right now…

Anyhow, I though I’d wrangle up a picture from Night Control’s UK/France tour last month. They commented on how cheesy and fabricated this photo looks, but what you don’t know is that they had most likely been drinking all day and were just wandering around.

Beyond that, we had some problems with the Dictaphone LP. It was mastered and re-mastered, then re-mastered again. In the end, it sounds amazing and the Dictaphone’s songs are absolutely catching. It came out to be a really great and energetic punk album. We’re also trying to wrap some things up with The Sharp Ends for their first LP. They are taking their time to make an album the right way… everything I’ve heard is solid as a rock.

We have tons and tons of new distro since I last posted, but I’m too lazy to list it all here. Just know that it’s good and we have even more coming. Follow us on Facebook to see them as they come in. You may want to get your hands on The Feeling of Love’s “OK Judge Revival” LP since we only have a handful left. The Moles “Untune the Sky” are going pretty quickly too. Don’t miss out on either as they are both highly recommended. I’d totally snatch up distro copies and a few for myself if we hadn’t pressed them…

In closing, here are two videos of Flight playing two jams (“Over my Head” and “Unpredictable”) off of the 10″ we put out:

Aquarius Records Reviews The Moles “Untune the Sky” 2xLP 1

Here’s what the great Aquarius records has to say about our latest release from the Moles:

The Moles are definitely not a household name, at least in most normal households, which is definitely a shame. Not sure how many folks remember the band Cardinal, they only released one proper full length, back in the nineties, but to this day, it remains quite possibly one of the most perfect orchestral pop records ever released. But before Cardinal, there was the Moles. Untune The Sky is the debut from New Zealand poppers The Moles, the band that Richard Davies called home, long before Cardinal, and while not nearly as lush or orchestral, it’s a classic slice of primo late 80’s/early 90’s Flying Nun style experimental pop. Droning and hypnotic, with lots of jagged unfinished edges, weird almost industrial noise, Brit pop jangle and an almost Morrissey vocal drawl. But for as experimental as the Moles were, all of that experimentalism was wrapped around some incredibly catchy pop, hooks galore, not always proudly on display, sometimes nearly totally obfuscated, but just as often, set up right in front, and allowed to shine, an approach to pop that to this day still seems distinctly New Zealand. Fans of the Tall Dwarfs, the Bats, the Clean, the 3Ds, the Chills, Straightjacket Fits, the Verlaines, could have easily missed out on the Moles, they were sort of underground even among the already underground, plus they were definitely a bit weirder, but now’s the time to right that wrong, this stuff is timeless, sounding as good as ever, some incredible pop songs can be found within Untune The Sky, and half the fun is digging for them.

New Distro Stuff from Kenrock, SDZ, FolkTale, Release the Bats!, AVANT!, Permanent, Psychic Handshake, and more! 0

Sorry it’s been so long since our last communication. We’ve been working really hard on our new upcoming releases and the aftermath of the Moles and Agent Side Grinder releases. We’ve had lots of great responses to both new records, so thanks to everyone that bought either one and told your friends how awesome it is.

Anyhow, we’ve set up a giant slew of new records in our distro store from all over place. We’ve got imported and limited edition stuff from France, Canada, Sweden, Germany, and of course the US of A. Lots of great stuff has been added:

Yeah, so that’s our update for now. The Dictaphone LP is at the plant. We should have it in about 4-6 weeks, so look for it soon.
